The Binar Space Program, based at Curtin University's Space Science and Technology Centre, is taking giant leaps forward with its upcoming third space mission. This ambitious program, funded by the State Government with a significant $2.5 million investment, aims to propel Western Australia into the forefront of the space industry.
A Space Odyssey in WA
The Binar program has already launched four CubeSats, each a miniature marvel measuring just 11.5cm by 10cm by 10cm and weighing a mere 1.33kg. These satellites, built from aluminum and copper, are designed to advance our understanding of the solar system and lower the barriers to space exploration.
What makes this particularly fascinating is the program's holistic approach. It's not just about launching satellites; it's about inspiring and educating a new generation of space enthusiasts and professionals. From primary school students to postgraduates, the Binar program offers a unique opportunity to engage with space technology and develop valuable STEM skills.

The upcoming third mission builds on the legacy of the previous two. Binar-1, the first spacecraft bus designed and built entirely in WA, spent over a year in space, a testament to its success. The second mission deployed three identical mini satellites to the International Space Station in 2024.
Now, Binar-5, 6, and 7 are set to launch, having been built and delivered in a record-breaking 18 months. This rapid development showcases the program's efficiency and dedication.
